    If your silk duvet cover or duvet set is a lighter shade of silk, you should have no problems washing it with water and a mild detergent.

    Before water washing silk, perform a color fastness test by dipping a portion of the silk into tepid water. Take a piece of white cotton fabric and firmly press it on top of the wetted silk. If there is only the slightest trace of color transfer, or none at all, then it is safe to wash the silk duvet with water.

    If you decide to wash your silk duvet set with water, be sure to use cool or tepid water only. Water that is too hot will most likely cause the silk to blotch as it dries.

    Belting up in ‘bucks and trusses’

    South Canterbury students are now among the first in the country to ride to school in style – in “bucks and trusses”.

    Bus company Ritchies has provided eight converted Mitsubishi Fuso trucks to replace its old school buses.

    The new vehicles, nicknamed “bucks and trusses”, have seatbelts, air conditioning and automatic doors that won’t open until the bus has stopped and will close when the bus starts to move.

    The buses were introduced thanks to the Aoraki School Transport Network, which called for tenders from companies that could provide certain safety equipment, such as seatbelts.

    Atkinson and Dossett was upgrading its eight buses and fitting seatbelts, network chairman Grant Mehrtens said.

    The network covers 10 high schools and 16 bus routes in South Canterbury, and sometimes transports primary school children too. The new buses can fit 69 children, or 48 adults or high school students.

    Ritchies branch manager Mark Cooper said the new buses were innovative, more fuel efficient, and it was cheaper and quicker to make them than to import buses.

    “Timaru is one of the first school bus fleets to have this,” Mr Cooper said. Buses used for schools were usually the old ones in a company’s fleet

    DENR Secretary Jose L. Atienza Jr. told a press briefing that the 164-megawatt (MW) coal fired plant in Brgy. Ingore, La Paz , Iloilo City of the Panay Power Corp. (PPC) was found to have a plan that is environmentally sound based on studies of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

    A closer investigation into the technology of the plant similar to that within a semiconductor compound in Taipei proves the cleanliness of the emission from the plant.
